Your data

Privacy policy

PicFrom is developed and operated by Sergey Pavlishin, an individual who is the data controller for the personal data processing described in this policy. Privacy enquiries: support@picfrom.com.

This policy covers PicFrom for Mac, PicFrom for iPhone, picfrom.com and support correspondence.

1. Your photos stay on your devices

PicFrom runs locally on your devices, without an account, sign-in or in-app advertising. Neither app sends your photos, videos or library metadata to the developer or an analytics service.

PicFrom for Mac requests the standard macOS permission to access Apple Photos. It does not ask for your Apple ID, password or verification code. If an original is stored only in iCloud, macOS downloads it using the iCloud session already signed in on your Mac. Apple processes that activity under its own privacy policy.

Files are saved to the destination you choose. A technical log used to resume copying is kept alongside the archive on your drive. PicFrom does not upload that log automatically. Files and logs on your own devices remain under your control.

PicFrom for iPhone sends photos only to a computer you connect it to. It asks for three iOS permissions: Photos, to read the photos and videos it sends; the camera, to scan the connection code on the computer screen; and local network access, to find the computer and transfer files over your own network. The camera is used only to read the code, and no picture is saved. If you use an iPhone to receive photos from another phone, PicFrom saves them to Photos.

Photos go straight from the iPhone to the computer over an encrypted connection, with no server in between. To work out what is new, the iPhone tells the computer each file's original name and size and the identifier Photos assigns to it, so photos already in the archive are skipped. The iPhone introduces itself with a randomly generated name, such as Swift Fig, rather than your device name. The iPhone and the computer remember each other so they can reconnect without a code. To remove a computer, use Forget Computer in the app.

If you choose to send files or logs to support, they are handled as support correspondence as described below.

2. Optional app statistics

With your consent, PicFrom for Mac sends limited usage statistics to a server in Germany: app version, language and region, launches and the result of each copy. These statistics do not include your photos, videos or file names. IP addresses are not stored as part of the app statistics records. When you copy photos from an iPhone, PicFrom for Mac also records that a transfer started and how it ended, with the number of photos and the duration rounded into ranges. PicFrom for iPhone does not send statistics.

Statistics help identify problems and improve the App. They are kept for no more than 90 days. You can disable statistics at any time in the Mac app's Settings (⌘,). Google Analytics is not used inside the App.

3. Website analytics and cookies

The website uses Google Analytics to understand visits and improve the site. When the website's Google Analytics code runs, Google receives information directly from your browser, such as pages viewed, referring pages, browser and device information, and approximate location. This website analytics does not receive your photos, videos or library metadata from the App. Analytics cookies help distinguish visits and measure use over time.

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the Google Analytics code is loaded only after you select Accept in the cookie banner. Until then, and if you decline, the website sends no data to Google. The website recognises these regions by your browser's time zone. If your browser reports UTC or no time zone, the banner appears too. If the time zone does not match your location, Google's own regional settings still keep analytics cookies off until you consent, but limited measurement requests without cookies may be sent.

Outside those regions, analytics cookies may be enabled by default where permitted by applicable law. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage until you change it or clear the site data. To change your choice, open Cookie settings and select Accept or Decline. A decline applies in every region: the website then stops using analytics cookies and no longer loads the Google Analytics code. You can also block cookies in your browser or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Website analytics is used to compare usage patterns and assess changes to the site. Personal data is retained only while needed for those purposes; reports that no longer identify individuals may be retained longer.

More information: Google Privacy Policy and Google Consent Mode.

4. Server logs and support

The web server keeps standard access logs, including IP addresses, to maintain security, investigate errors and prevent misuse. These logs are deleted after 90 days.

If you contact support, your email address, message and any information or attachments you send are used to answer your enquiry and resolve the issue. Please send only information relevant to your request. Correspondence is retained while the enquiry and related follow-up remain open, and longer only where necessary to meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

5. Why data is processed

Where the GDPR or similar rules apply, the relevant legal bases are:

You do not have to provide optional statistics or send a support request to use the App. Without information needed to investigate a support issue, it may not be possible to resolve that issue.

6. Google Analytics and international transfers

Google may process the website analytics information described in section 3 outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Google describes its published safeguards in its information about international data transfers. You can contact support@picfrom.com with questions about the transfer arrangements applicable to this website.

Personal data is not sold. Information may be disclosed where legally required or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

7. Your rights

Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of processing, or a portable copy. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent to processing based on consent.

To exercise your rights, contact support@picfrom.com. You may also complain to a data protection authority, including the authority in your country of habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.

If information has been anonymised so that you cannot be identified, it may not be possible to locate or delete records relating to you. The developer cannot access or delete photos or archives stored only on your own devices.

8. Changes

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the App, website or applicable requirements. The current version and update date will be available on this page. Where required, material changes will be brought to your attention and fresh consent will be requested before processing that requires it.

The terms for using the App are in the License Agreement.
